First Reading (Ex 16:2-4, 12-15). This reading tells how God fed his people in the desert with manna. This is regarded as a memorable example of God’s care for his people.
Second Reading (Eph 4:17, 20-24). St Paul urges the Ephesians to live lives that are in keeping with their baptismal calling.
Gospel (Jn 6:24-35). Last Sunday we heard how Jesus miraculously gave food to the people in the wilderness. Today we hear him warn the people “do not work for perishable food, but for food that endures to eternal life.”
Just as God sustained the Israelites, so he sustains us through faith in Jesus, the bread of life, who continues to nourish us by his Word and by the Sacrament of his body and blood.
